About

There is already lots of great habitat on the farm and the Williams family are really committed to making the farm as nature friendly as possible.

There is a range of different habitat types here, including upland grazing pasture; woodland and wetlands.

There are a number of different plans within this project so keep your eyes peeled on social media as we complete various habitat creation tasks!

Our Work (so far)

Our first task was to erect a barn owl box. This isolated, open sided cattle shed made a great site. It is well removed from any roads and is located near an area of scrub as well as grazing pasture which will provide key hunting ground.

What we’ve got planned

The next stage of this project is to create a pond in the woodland. A stream runs alongside the woodland and the area is quite boggy. A natural dip in the landscape already exists and our plan is to dig down further to clay level, leaving an island in the middle of the pond. This area will make a fantastic habitat for birds, amphibians and invertebrates.

To ensure there is enough light for the pond, we will conduct some light coppicing of the woodland. This will also allow for a wider range of flora to develop on the floor.
