Transparency
Straightforward. Practical. Trustworthy.
Being transparent is at the heart of everything we do. As a non-profit organisation, making money isn’t our only goal, but without it we wouldn’t be able to conduct the vital work that we do.
That’s why we promise to be totally honest about how we operate and our finances, which is why we will publish our accounts annually.
Habitat Creation (per square meter)
We aim to work with farmers and landowners to protect and encourage wildlife. We believe the best way of doing this is to provide a home for nature, without having a detrimental impact on the farming businesses that make up our community. Research shows that habitats need to be bigger and better but crucially they need to be well-connected. With around 90% of the Welsh landscape given over to farming, this provides us with the perfect opportunity to use marginal areas of land on singular farms and connect these habitats across a number of farms to increase biodiversity.
In terms of calculating your impact, we felt it only sensible to measure the area of habitat created and as we believe in small, practical steps, a square meter seemed like a good place to start. So how much does it cost to create one square meter of habitat? The honest answer is it varies. Habitat Creation includes: hedge planting; fencing; putting up bird boxes; creating ponds; sowing seeds and a host of other tasks.
Using the total cost of our projects we calculated the average cost of one square meter of habitat. While obviously no two projects were the same, all of them worked out as less than £1 per square meter.
Pretty good value, right?
Project Costs
Hello Excel! In line with our unwavering commitment to transparency, we will not only publish the accounts but also illustrate how the funds raised are allocated to each project. By doing so, we aim to both enlighten individuals on the financial cost for establishing wildlife-friendly nature habitats and emphasize the importance of securing adequate funding.
It is crucial to note that the majority of our projects will be ongoing, meaning that additional expenses may arise over time. For instance, in situations where a fence or bird-box needs replacing, or if the habitat would benefit from the introduction of another species, the budget may be adjusted accordingly. However, in cases where we are unable to provide a complete project budget, we will instead provide a detailed breakdown of the costs associated with the materials used. By sharing this information, we hope to not only ensure transparency but also foster a deeper understanding of the finances involved in conserving wildlife and nurturing their natural environments.
